Alopecia areata

Alopecia areata It is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune condition in which the immune system abnormally attacks the hair follicles. This leads to a disruption of the hair growth cycle and the formation of characteristic, round areas of hair loss.

Lesions most commonly appear on the scalp, but may also affect the eyebrows, eyelashes and other areas of the body where hair grows. The course of the condition varies – in some people, the hair grows back on its own, whilst in others the problem may be recurrent or affect larger areas.

Symptoms include alopecia areata This includes the sudden onset of localised hair loss, often without any prior symptoms. In some cases, changes to the nails may also occur, such as weakness or unevenness.

Treatment of alopecia The treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis requires an individualised approach and depends, amongst other things, on the extent of the lesions, the duration of the condition and the activity of the inflammatory process. Diagnosis involves an assessment of the scalp and hair, including a trichological examination, which helps to determine the condition of the hair follicles and to decide on the next course of action.
