Scarring alopecia This is a type of alopecia in which the hair follicles are permanently damaged and replaced by scar tissue. In the affected areas, hair stops growing back, which is why the hair loss is irreversible.

Causes of cicatricial alopecia may include chronic inflammation, autoimmune diseases, infections or injuries to the scalp. Depending on the type of condition, the lesions may appear in localised patches or affect larger areas of the scalp.

Symptoms often include gradual thinning of the hair, increased hair loss, redness of the scalp, itching or a burning sensation. In some cases, changes may also be observed around the hair follicle openings, indicating a progressive scarring process.

Treatment of alopecia The management of keloid scarring focuses primarily on halting the active disease process and limiting further damage to the hair follicles. Given the permanent nature of the lesions, rapid diagnosis and the implementation of appropriate treatment at the earliest possible stage are of crucial importance.

Recognition cicatricial alopecia It requires a thorough assessment of the scalp, including a trichological examination. This enables the nature of the changes to be determined and the appropriate course of action to be selected, depending on the cause of the problem.
